“A rustic and romantic hand-made glamping retreat set on an off-grid organic smallholding in the Serra de Sao Mamede.”

Description of Pego Ferreiro

Pego Ferreiro is an old water mill on the Rio Sever in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal.

We are remote, off-grid and organic. The three glamping venues are completely separate and private offering peace and seclusion.

Downstream from the mill weve built a wooden deck overlooking the river which the River Lodge sits atop.

The River Lodge is covered in heavy canvas and faces east into the rising sun.

By 10 o’clock you’ll be in the shade of a cork oak. If it gets too hot, there’s the river below.

From the veranda you can gaze down at the otters and kingfishers. At night tuck up under the canvas to the sounds of water tumbling over the stones.

A handy gas stove is there for morning coffees and light meals, a barbecue area nearby.

Your own private river pool with rocks for lounging with the book. Private compost loo.

Sleeping 2, it’s perfect for the creation of little ones.

Marvao is an historic hill top Moorish fort.

The Serra de Sao Mamede (described as Hobbit country) contains the highest density and diversity of invertebrates in Europe.

Megaliths and monoliths litter the area making for fascinating walking and off road cycling.

Horse riding is available as is donkey trekking.

Seasonal produce is available from the gardens, local wine, home made beer and herbs.

The Boar Hide offers year round accommodation and wild boar.
