When you stay at Sundance Lodges in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, you know you’ve arrived in the heart of the spectacular Rocky Mountains in Canada.

As a vast pristine wilderness area protected by the provincial government, Kananaskis is everyone’s dream of the genuine mountain experience.

Since 1992, the Sundance owners and staff have been welcoming local and international travelers seeking a low-impact magical experience in beautiful self-catered authentic tipis, and comfortable trapper’s tents nestled in the valley forest near the Kananaskis River.

Our beautiful Sioux design tipis reflect the heritage of this area. Nearby Stoney natives, descended from the American Sioux, used to hunt and fish in Kananaskis.

As you slowly drive around the heavily treed campground, you will catch flashes of the bright colours and stunning beauty of the tipis.

Many of the trees you pass are lodgepole pine – valued by the Plains Indians as making the best tipi poles, and used by us as well.

An old trap line ran through our land and up the Valley many years ago. It gave us the idea for our next tent structure – the trapper’s tent.

These wall tents were used extensively throughout the old Canadian West by trappers, loggers, gold miners, explorers and settlers. We chose to enhance it with a covered front deck for both rainy days and those lazy hot summer afternoons perfect for reading that summer novel.

As a quiet, privately owned and operated family campground close to many exciting outdoor activities, Sundance provides a peaceful getaway or an active adventure, yet only 45 minutes from Banff or Calgary.

We call this adventure accommodation.
