“A rustic and romantic hand-made glamping retreat set on an off-grid organic smallholding in the Serra de Sao Mamede.”

Description of Pego Ferreiro

Pego Ferreiro is an old water mill on the Rio Sever in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal.

Pego Ferreiro is an old water mill on the Rio Sever in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal.

We are remote, off-grid and organic. The two glamping spaces are completely separate and private offering peace and seclusion.

Downstream from the mill we’ve built a wooden deck overlooking the river which the River Lodge sits atop.

The River Lodge is a cork insulated wooden cabin and faces east into the rising sun.

By 10 o’clock you’ll be in the shade of a cork oak. If it gets too hot, there’s the river below.

From the veranda you can gaze down at the otters and kingfishers. At night tuck up to the gentle sounds of water tumbling over the stones.

You’ll have a handy gas stove for morning coffees and light meals and a small charcoal grill/oven.

Your own private river pool with rocks for lounging with the book. Private compost loo.

Sleeping 2, it’s perfect for the creation of little ones.

Marvao is an historic hill top Moorish fort.

The Serra de Sao Mamede (described as Hobbit country) contains the highest density and diversity of invertebrates in Europe.

Megaliths and monoliths litter the area making for fascinating walking and off road cycling.

Horse riding is available off-site.

Seasonal produce is available from the gardens, local wine from a neighbour.

The Boar Hide offers alternative accommodation and if you’re quiet you could see the wild boar at night.
