Swallowtails is part of the 'Skylarks Camps' organisation providing a wonderful camping experience in a countryside setting just on the edge of North York Moors.

Swallowtails is not just a base, but a place to spend quality time as well if you want to stay put and relax. At Swallowtails, we offers yoga, mindfulness, aroma therapy and massage sessions as well as activities in the school holidays for all ages designed to allow you to re-connect with nature and make new friends! 

We offer stylish, cosy, hassle free boutique glamping in the form of spacious insulated luxury yurts and 'Lotus Belle' tents. We offer yurts/bell tents that accommodate 4- 6 guests comfortably. An extra camp bed and bedding can be added to accommodate 1 extra person.

‘Why not come to a spot in the countryside where you can dream under dark North Yorkshire skies, spotting shooting stars and knowing that a wood burning stove is warming your yurt for your return. Wake up refreshed within your quilted bubble and listen to the gentle sound of songbirds. 

Who are we?
Freya and Mark have been running their glampsite since 2015 first in North Norfolk and now in North Yorkshire.

They made the jump from living in London to moving back to the countryside of their childhood in 2005. In Freya’s case, it was a return from working as a scenic artist for theatre, film and television.

They are environmentally minded and try to limit their impact on the environment as much as possible. They live next to glampsite with two children and really enjoy getting to know guests especially around the campfire on starry nights.

Our glamping only campsite provides you with hassle free camping. Our luxury insulated yurts are available from April to November and our luxury insulated 'Lotus Belle' tents are available from May to the end of September. Our stylish luxury yurts and 'Lotus Belle' tents have king sized beds and single daybeds with pull out single mattress trundles, sleeping from 4-5 people. Our extra large yurts has beds for 6 and can accomodate a 7th person if hiring a camp bed and bedding.

We have a communal camp fire area where we also host our food nights and run activities and workshops. Our glampers can hire a private hot tub area which can seat up to 6. Next to the glampsite off the car park, there is a stable block with a games room, shared kitchen with microwave, fridge freezer, kettle and washing up area and a shared shower room for the 'Lotus Belle' tents. We also have a shared flushing toilet block for the 'Lotus Belle' tents. All yurts are en suite.

Swallowtails also operates an eco friendly glampsite with high quality compost loos (not a bucket and a hole!). All the electrics in our luxury yurts are solar powered and our cleaning products are not harmful to the environment. Our activity programme promotes conservation and the love of the outdoors.

Swallowtails makes camping as easy as possible. We provide everything for a self catering break. All you really need to bring is an overnight bag, and some food although Pickering town centre is only a 10 minute walk from the campsite, so you can even eat out and stroll back to the glampsite. There are walks and cycle paths from the campsite in all directs including the new Pickering to Malton Cycle Route. Firewood, kindling etc. are also available in the shop hut.

Swallowtails is a sociable campsite with plenty to do onsite. We offer a variety of activities during the school holidays (North Yorkshire term dates) for campers to enjoy the natural surroundings. We also host food nights during the school summer half term week and throughout the summer holiday. Yoga, Mindfulness, Massage and Aromatherapy session can also be booked.

Notes about prices

Our prices vary depending on the time of year. We have late availability deals which we advertise on our Facebook page and/or arrange through telephone bookings within 7 days of the arrival date.

Cancellation policy

Cancellations: For any cancellations more than 28 days prior to the arrival, 80% of the amount paid will be refunded. For any cancellations less than 28 days or more than 14 days prior to the arrival date, 50% of the amount paid will be refunded. For any cancellations less than 14 days prior to the arrival date, none of the full amount will be.
