About Olchon Valley Campsite

Glamping & camping in wagons, yurts & tents on a hill farm in the Black Mountains, on the eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Stunning scenery, fabulous dark night skies and peace!

We are a small, family run site offering accommodation in yurts, railway wagons and a camping field to pitch your own tents.

Our campsite is on a traditional hill sheep farm in the Black Mountains, on the eastern edge of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons National Park). At over 1,000 feet above sea level, we offer a peaceful, rural site in an area of stunning scenery with spectacular, dark night skies.

The local area is perfect for walking, running and cycling. From our campsite you can access the Offa’s Dyke path that follows the current border between England and Wales.

There are many local footpaths, including the spectacular ‘Cat’s back’ ridge visible from the campsite.

The area is a haven for wildlife and it is common to see Red Kites and Buzzards in the skies over the valley. The Olchon Brook runs through the farm on its way from the uplands to join the River Monnow.

Our site is a mixture of wooded pasture and meadow and is vibrant with butterflies, grasshoppers and other invertebrates throughout the summer.

We are strongly committed to ensuring our guests ’tread lightly’ and have minimum impact on the natural environment.

We have reused/ repurposed/ recycled wherever possible in developing the infrastructure around the site. The Yurt accommodation is ‘off grid’, with some solar lighting where necessary.

There is mains electricity in the wagons and communal areas, with plenty of sockets and USB points for charging your gadgets.

Water comes from a borehole located on site, and we have lovely, hot showers. Waste is recycled and composted where possible. Even ‘human waste’ is composted in our toilets!

We are a family-friendly site catering for all ages. So, whether you are looking for outdoor adventure, or if you simply want to slow down and relax around the campfire, we know you will fall in love with the Olchon Valley and appreciate how special this place is.

Turf-roofed outdoor shelter with communal fire pit and seating. Well-equipped Field Kitchen, with a wood-fired Rayburn, an electric oven and a gas hob. Ample seating around the kitchen table, or benches on the decking outside for an al fresco dining option.

Each yurt has its own kitchenette with gas rings & a good range of kitchen utensils, perfect for making tea or coffee & heating food. Each yurt has a Kadai which can be used as a BBQ for outdoor cooking. Charcoal & kindling are provided, alongside BBQ tools, a tripod, hanging bowl & an outdoor kettle. On the lower stand, the Kadai makes a makes a lovely fire pit to sit around during the evening. We have a clay pizza oven which can be hired for use on the large fire pit in the communal shelte

In our yurts, duvets, pillows and blankets are all provided. Bring your own duvet cover, sheet and pillow cases. Full bedding is provided in our railway wagon. You don't need to being any bedding!

We are ideally situated to explore the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and to enjoy sightseeing in the nearby towns of Hay on Wye, Abergavenny and Hereford.
