A self-contained yurt with private facilities and garden, set within the grounds of a smallholding in the ancient Forest of Dean.
Self contained and cosy yurt in the magical Forest of Dean. Private facilities and garden area in the grounds of an old forest smallholding. Wood burner for chilly nights and campfire area.
The Yurt at Oakdean Cottage is a gorgeous place to unwind and breathe. Everything you need for a peaceful stay right on the south east edge of the Forest of Dean.
The yurt has an extremely comfortable double bed and a pull out sofa double bed, with clean wood flooring and vintage and upcycled furniture finds. A wood burner provides heat on chilly nights - and it does get very cosy when it is lit!
The yurt is built into a steep hillside on a raised decking platform between the trees, with steps up to the door and gorgeous views of rolling countryside.
A modern fitted bathroom with hot water, shower, and flushing loo are 20 meters from the yurt, which is private for your sole use for the duration of your stay (as are all of the facilities described here). The small kitchenette also has a washing up sink, hot water, a kettle, toaster, and kitchen essentials.
There is an outdoor cooking area with a campfire grill for BBQ or campfire cooking, and a separate covered seating area with a camping electric oven and hob if lighting a fire feels too much!
There are hammocks in the trees for complete relaxation.
You will have a dedicated parking space a short walk from the yurt (approx 40 meters along uneven hillside paths), and there is a large garden area to enjoy when not out roaming.
The yurt is insulated with a hybrid of modern insulation and traditional yaks wool, which keeps some of the heat out in the summer and more heat inside in the autumn and spring.
We love it here, and we hope you will too. You can see reviews from previous guests on our website: www.oakdeancottage.com
The parking area is a short walk from the yurt along a sloping gravel path.
All facilities are for your sole use for the duration of your stay. The bathroom and kitchen facilities have hot running water, there is an electric shower, and flushing toilet. You have the option of cooking outside on a quirky campfire / fireplace (see photos) or using the electric oven and hob in the outdoor shelter.
The yurt has a woodburner and we always source wood very locally. We have sourced all furniture and items in the yurt as sustainably as possible, with most items upcycled in some way. We recommend you bring your own bedding as this also reduces the environmental load.
We can provide bedding and towels for a one off fee of £20 but we recommend you bring your own if you can, as this reduces everyone's carbon footprint. Slippers are a good idea in the colder months and wellies or good waterproof walking boots are essential year round (we are close to Wales and it does rain quite a bit - resulting in MUD!). It gets very dark here at night - great for stargazing but you might want to bring a torch (we do have solar outdoor lights in some areas though).
The owner does not have a video of their glamping site.
The yurt itself is a very short walk away from the forest along forestry paths. You can walk or cycle into the Forest straight from the yurt and keep going for miles. We are around 20 minutes from the River Wye which is good for kayaking, and around 10 minutes drive from Minsterworth where you can get in the Severn to surf the Bore if the time is right. We are always happy to provide further information about local guides if you would like more information.
