Self-catering luxury Shepherds Huts located on our family farm in an Area of Outstanding Beauty on the Essex coast. Adults only, each sleeps two.

The Shepherds Hide are luxurious and secluded self-catering shepherds huts, tucked away on the Essex coast just outside Colchester. Each hut is separate from one another giving privacy and a sense of seclusion from the outside world. Both have their own facilities so there is no need for sharing!

Recently described by a guest as “a precious little place” these huts are the perfect retreat for short breaks, romantic getaways, a rural escape or for longer self-catered holidays in the countryside. Boasting excellent bird watching opportunities, country walks, and a range of tourist attractions nearby – it’ll be hard to leave.

These beautifully furnished shepherds huts, each for two adults are located on our family farm where a warm welcome awaits you. Enjoy the serenity of this wooded area with wonderful view, adjacent to the mill pond in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surround yourself in nature and forget the outside world to relax and enjoy these hidden gems.

The Shepherds Huts offers you a wonderful glamping experience in a unique and peaceful setting.

Our farm - Mill Farm - is 55 acres of a mixture of arable, grassland, salt marsh, tidal creeks, inland waters and is the home of the only fully restored tide mill in Essex. With an abundance of wildlife and birdlife to see and hear, you'll feel more like you’ve come to a nature reserve than a farm … and it's yours to enjoy in privacy.

Whilst it’ll be hard to drag yourself away from all this serenity, we highly recommend getting out and about to sample the delights of the local area.

Easy accessible are the coastal towns of Brightlingsea, Wivenhoe, Manningtree, Frinton-on-Sea, Clacton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze … not to mention London being only 90 minutes away by rail or car.

Other sights include Dedham Vale - famous for John Constable - Colchester Zoo, Colchester Castle, the luxury Lifehouse Spa in Thorpe-le-Soken, and many Essex Wildlife Trust sites such as Fingringhoe.

Parking is located a little way away from the huts to create that peaceful and undisturbed atmosphere for our guests. Your belongings can be taken by wheel barrow!

Notes about prices

Prices depend on season. High Season is 1st April to 30th September. Low Season is 1st October to 31st March.

Cancellation policy

If the booking is cancelled more than 14 days before arrival then a charge equal to 175 GBP per booking will be made. If the booking is cancelled less than 14 days before arrival then a charge equal to the full booking amount will be made.
