Try a spot of very unusual 'glamping' in the form of this unique open-air dwelling in the desert near Joshua Tree

The brainchild of Robert Stone, a former punk rocker turned architect, Rosa Muerta is a unique open-air dwelling offering you the chance to re-frame and re-create your own world, if only for a weekend.

This minimalist structure is made from concrete blocks and has four rooms: a spacious outdoor living room with spa, fire pit and barbecue; a bedroom; a bathroom; and a small but well equipped kitchen.

Located just 10 minutes from the National Park the house is tucked against a rock outcropping just outside the edge of the city of Joshua Tree.

The property is at the end of a dirt road with no other houses on it. There are few other houses in the area with the nearest one 600 feet away, so there is a lot of privacy and open desert around.

You can bring some friends and crank up your amp or just listen to the silence.

Check out the superb photo narrative of Rosa Muerta in the LA Times.

Spa

Fire pit

Fully equipped kitchen
