Description of Dorset Forest Garden
Shepherd’s huts were part of the rural scene between 16th and early 20th century. They were designed to be a cosy, warm space for shepherds to cook and sleep in relative comfort, whatever the weather.
Downland sheep farms like ours are just the sort of place where they would have been used.
At Dorset Forest Garden today our two shepherd’s huts are set amidst fruit trees with each hut positioned to enjoy its own individual breathtaking views across traditional Dorset countryside.
Like the original huts they still have a woodburner inside, however you’ll also find a few luxuries that would not have been enjoyed by the shepherds of yesteryear.
They are beautifully decorated with some lovingly restored furniture and traditional fittings.
You snuggle up in a proper king size bed with a feather duvet and pillows.
There is hot a shower and flushing toilet all in the hut.
For cooking, the hut contains all the kitchen utensils and necessities and marshmallows to toast over your fire pit.
Spend your days exploring the countryside, head to the seaside on the Jurassic coast, or take time cooking on an open campfire, allowing time to drift by.
On a rainy day you can retreat to our BBQ hut – a great place to meet other guests and enjoy various games.
Or chill out in your shepherd’s hut with a lit woodburner and a brew.
This makes for a quiet and relaxing glamping retreat away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.
